Schafer Gear Works—South Bend
Our longevity is a direct result of constantly upgrading our production, engineering, testing and tolerance capabilities to world-class standards of gear-production technology.
Continuous improvement of our CNC turning, hobbing, shaving, gear grinding and machining centers allows Schafer Gear to meet ISO and AGMA 13 standards, as well as the most rigid military standards common among our customer base. We also have complete CNC gear inspection and tolerance measurement capabilities.
Production machinery includes: CNC turning, hobbing, gear grinding, shaping, shaving, broaching, honing, deburring and grinding to produce spur, helical, bevel and worm gears. We recently added a fully integrated manufacturing cell with totally automated robotic systems.
In addition, we have wide tool-room capabilities, which allows faster turnaround in setting up new jobs.
Our production capacity grows with each new generation of CNC machines that we install in our plant. You can count on Schafer Gear to keep pace with your largest capacity order or increase in your business. Within our 108,000-square-foot, modern, air-conditioned facility, we have the machine capacity to produce from 1/8-inch up to 16-inch spur or helical gears.
In 2003 we absorbed the assets of Chicago Gear Works to expand our capabilities for bevel and worm gears, as well as service numerous domestic customers.
Schafer Gear Works—Rockford
Continuous process improvements and ongoing capabilities expansion keep Schafer Gear Works an evolving, viable source for precision gears and parts. The Schafer Gear Works Rockford facility adds the production of larger gears to our company profile. Located in Rockford, Illinois, the ISO 9001:2008 operation rounds out the company's product offering and positions Schafer Gear Works as the premier Midwest gear producer.
Schafer Gear Works Rockford specializes in gear grinding to AGMA Class 13 up to 32 inches in diameter and face grinding to eight inches in diameter. In addition, we produce spur and helical gears up to 36 inches. The 40,000-square-foot air-conditioned operation employs 40 people and serves a customer base that includes manufacturers of agricultural, industrial and construction machinery.
Schafer Precision Machining—Fort Wayne
The Schafer Precision Machining division specializes in a variety of CNC precision-critical machining processes. We assure the highest quality standards, in addition to providing reliable support, from engineering through delivery.
Thirty years of quality performance substantiates Schafer Precision Machining's commitment to excellence. As we look to the future, state-of-the-art CNC lathes and CNC Swiss-style lathes, operated by some of the most experienced personnel in the field, achieve tolerances to .0002 inch, and microfinishes to 16 RMS.
Schafer Precision Machining also specializes in manufacturing BORette Brand small-diameter carbide blanks for I.D. cutting. Small-diameter carbide BORette® Blanks provide you with reduced tool costs and less down time.
